A.L.I.C.E. Technique
The San José State University Police Department employs an Active Shooter & Violent Intruder program known as "A.L.I.C.E." A.L.I.C.E. is an acronym the stands for ALERT, LOCKDOWN, INFORM, COUNTER and EVACUATE.
The program is designed to give a person, or group of people, who may find themselves in a potentially life threatening situation, some mental and physical tools that could play a vital role in their survival. The program is designed so that anybody can employ the strategies. Young, old, male, female, it does not matter. One does not have to be police, or military trained in order to survive a violent encounter, but they do need to have a frame of reference from which to draw from when making life saving decisions under extreme pressure, much like preparing for a school fire, or an earthquake.
San Jose State University Police Department Active Shooter/Violent Intruder instructors have presented the A.L.I.C.E. program to the campus community and to various communities throughout Santa Clara County. |
